Gosh, things were going so good too. I have a vet on the way, but earliest they can come is 4:30 this evening, unless the vet can juggle some appointments. Lets hope! This is scary?
Heres the situation.
Horses Arrive Sunday at 2:30 pm
Bonnie rides in trailer 1000 miles. They made a lot of stops along the way, they stopped for 5 hours in north AL to sleep.
Horses were offered water at every stop, but did not drink that much. About 5 gal between the 2.
Soon as I unloaded Bonnie off the trailer, she went down, started to roll. lay there. We thought she was itchy, going from -6 to 65 degrees. She drank a bunch of water too.
Monday she is laying down most of the time. I tried to get a Bute in her in the morning and she kept spitting it out at me. I tried tricks but without my suringe I couldn't get it down.
I had to be at the store at 9am to open so had to leave her. Luke went back out about 1pm to get something and said she was still down. He tried to give her bute no luck.
Luke sent me back out there at 230pm. I finally got 2 pills of Bute down her throat. I got the carrot stick and made her get up and kept her moving.
She'd walk for a few min and her back legs just buckle and she'd go down. I thought COLIC. I called my mom and had her go to a vet and get me some banamine paste. While my mom was on her way with the banamine I kept the mare walking, or atleast standing. Finally she pooped, but it was half a normal pile.
Still has good gut sounds.
As I watch her more, her back legs seem to be stiff, they shake right before she calapses.
There is no heat in her feet or legs that I can tell thru her thick fur. She is not sweaty.
When I take her to the water tank she dunks her head up the eye balls and flips her head out and walks away.
She is not eating. This morning she nibbled a little bit of hay as she was laying down but Molly came over and ate her hay for her, grr.
Please pray for her, we can't lose her. She is the center of our world.
I gave her 2 bute and another dose of banamine this morning. I've never seen her this bad, and its so scary!
