I heard there have been some changes, and I'm trying to plan a weekend in July to go up there.
Do they reserve sites now? I heard fees went up? Is it still hard to get a site to camp in?
Thanks in advance. My husband and two of our friends want to go for a Friday-Sunday trip and take the horse trailer, 2 horses, and bring my camper along too.
Any help is appreciated. You can also e-mail me. horsechic4@hotmail.com

was there this past weekend yes, fees went up to $15/night no reservations for regular equine campground, but you can reserve their new group equine campground (I didn't make it over there to check the new group area out, so no info for you there) they are strict now about what vehicles/trailers/campers etc you can have on a site...so make sure you stop at the board to see what is allowed

Hmm....I am hoping to have my LQ trailer with me and the truck and my fifth wheel camper and a truck with us. It's me and hubby and one more couple. Do you know where the new group camp area is in relevance to the normal campground?
Did you have any trouble getting a spot up there like before. I know in the past if you didn't come on Thursday you weren't getting a spot. We're not going up until a Friday at the end of July.

We have the group camp reserved for the first week in August. $40 a day and limited to 8 rigs. There isn't any water there but we can haul it from the horse camp. From what I have been told it is just down the road from the horse camp.
QC, if you get the same DNR people that went thru last year you will have to have 2 sites for the 2 different camping units.

Thank You! I will give him a call.
We got lucky last year and had a big lot for 2 rigs...two horse trailer rigs that is, and no one said anything to us. We paid for both rigs, because it was only $3-5 a night last year.

just a reminder, that is federal and not state, so no DNR will be going through there. The federal is getting as greedy as the state sounds like. I think my trail riding days are over.

to answer your question about trouble finding a site....we came in on Fri @ 4 pm---had our pick of sites. There were only a handful of sites filled. there was a LARGE group of boy scouts camped in one section there were extremely rowdy--glad we weren't camped near them! not sure how they were allowed in there with no horses?

You'll want to double check this, but as I recall from federal forest guidelines, you can do dispersed camping. I'm not positive if it applies to horses but if you disperse well enough then no one should find you anyway

Thanks Sam. I'm hoping that's how it is for us. I want to pull in around 1pm on Friday July 24th.
Bleve~ what exactly do you mean by dispersed camping? I want my LQ horse trailer and possibly the fifth wheel camper since there will be 4 adults and it sleeps more comfortably than the horse trailer. Other wise horse trailer and the big ole tent. Do you think either of those ideas would work?

Like I said, I'm not sure how horses play into this. I believe it's no different, but don't quote me on that.
