I am selling an english saddle and I know what the seat size is but some one has asked what the tree size it is. I know western saddles come in different tree sizes. I am sure english saddles do to. I don't have any idea how to measure the width or tree size on a english saddle. Would it be stamped any where on the saddle?

Sometimes it's stamped on the inside flap (usually on the left side), or sometimes there is a plate with info on it near the stirrup bars (again sually on teh left side).
It may be a number (like 30, 32, etc), or it may be initials like M, W, MW.
A lot of saddles dont have anything on them though. The actual measurement varies a TON from saddle maker to saddle maker, and you cant really get the number measurement on a completed saddle because it's taken on the raw tree before the leather and padding is attached.
I would take a picture of the saddle with a tapemeasure held up to the gullet so they can make thier own guesses. You could also borrow one of those "gullet measuring" things that Wintec makes and see what angle matches the saddle the best, to give you a rough idea of whether it's med, wide or whatever.

If you know the brand, you can try to look them up and ask them how they measure.
