English saddles are measured from the "nail" on the front (in front of where the stirrup attached onthe side of the pommel, the little button), to the middle of the cantle (the center of the back of the seat).

Okay, thats what I thought. So that is considered the seat size than??? I got an english saddle from someone and they had told me it was a 16 1/2 and than it really is an 18, bonus for me, I was going to sell it to buy a bigger one....

Yep, that's the seat size. Western saddles are measured across the top, and are (roughly) 2" smaller than an english (so if you take a 18" english you take a 16" western). Maybe they measured it like a western saddle to get the 16 1/2"?
Does it fit you and your horse? That's the only thing that really matters! LOL

It fits my horse, I am not sure about me. It is comfy, but some people like room and some don't. I hate alot of extra room in my saddle. What is best roomy or comfy? ? I go to a riding clinic in a few months and its nice because she lets us know if our saddle fit is good for horse and rider. So far I have done rather well when I have gotten and taken western with me. This year I am taking all my english stuff and the saddle I just bought from TSC, just to see what she thinks. The saddle from TSC is just a synthetic Abetta, but it is the best saddle I have ever rode in!!!!
