There are pictures of a female and 2 cubs, (the brown color) walking through a corn field in western Monroe county. They were verified and appeared in the Monroe paper. Big cats has been spotted around Monroe and Wayne county area for the past few years. They're here. My brother, neice, and myself all saw a black one 2 years ago. We know what we saw, we were close enough to know it was NOT a housecat.

Not me and I looked at that pic for a long time. I don't think it's there. Or he's wearing camouflage. ;D

If you look at the rock in the lower right hand side where they form a v you can see it's ears and forehead. It's so hard to see. Karen

I'm not saying there aren't cougars in MI. I have several personal friends that REALLY know wildlife that have seen cougars in person (one in the Mason/Holt area, one in St. Johns).
I'm just saying these pictures clearly weren't taken in MI (the grasses inthe foreground don't even look like MI grasses, that is what actually promted me to do the internet search and these pictures have been used to "prove" there are cougars in MI, IL, IN, VA, and several other states).
Just saying you can't believe everything you get in an email. Everytime you use false information to try to prove your point it discredits the issue even further (the boy who cried wolf phenomenon). The DNR (or the press, or whoever else we need to convice because the DNR doesn't seem to care) will stop bothering to investigate if they get 100's of wild goose chases.

The pictures could have been taken anywhere, MI, SD, IL, IN or wherever. We all know they're here. I think they're just gorgeous!

Yes...they do blend in well.We have had them in this area and I took pics of tracks at our friend's place less then 200 ft from her barn on a two track....that was 3 yrs ago.She was walking her dogs and looked up as it came out of the hayfield on the other side of the two track...it stopped saw her and ran away from her to the woods down the trail...We went over that evening and took a walk and I saw where it had layed the hay down coming thru the hayfield and was able to get a pic of a clear paw print in some sand on the two track.I was exhited she was scared!!!!But then she is the one who actually saw the cat..all I saw was the tracks :)This same area had a few more sightings that summer by other people.Of course the DNR would say there aren't any here BUT then they tell you it is illegal to shoot them ;)IF they aren't here how can you shoot them ;DHubby saw a momma with 2 cubs last spring about 3 miles from here.I would LOVE to get a pic of one. appy Trails Jan

I love to see them in pictures........and at the zoo.........but don't care to see any close to home...LOL....I worry so much when we are up north at the cabin and the horses are on a picket line! I keep asking hubby to build me a couple of outside stalls with a roof and ground to roof slats so that no animals can get in there and get them while we are sleeping. I don't sleep well when they are on a line up there.......I'm afraid something will attack them!!!

Finally getting back to this, I looked at the web site earlier and found the cougar on that rock ledge easily. But then I study these animals as a past time and have come to know their likes and dislikes. I have always watched for cougar scat and spoor since we saw one many long years ago in WI when I was 16 and out practicing my driving skills with my mother. It was 1976 Supposedly the DNR said nope there are no cougars, oddly enough they didn't know what to say when we plaster casted the prints and showed them. For the most part if prey are plentiful in a big cats range and you do not crowd a big cat they will be elusive and you won't sight them. But if you do somehow blunder into their range and corner them or get them riled up rest assured they are a very formidable adversary and don't back down easilly. Many a good hound has found themselves on the deadly end of a well clawed paw as their insides become outsides. The Puma meat does taste good it is similar to pork, and their pelts are plush and warm. The claws are deadly sharp even when the animal no longer lives. One has to be careful when skinning to not drag one accidentally across exposed skin those kitties keep their weaponry well honed. A big cats teeth are also strongly secured into a jaw bone the portion sticking out is less then half of the length of the total tooth. Very interesting creatures to educate ones self about. Why do I admire them so much? Because they are my totem animal and spirit guide.
