Ok as some of you know my older dog went blind this fall. Both of my dogs are now with me in AL and we put up a dog fence this weekend. Its 24 ft square. Give them some room to move around. Now, my concern. We would like to put a strand of hot wire along the inside of the bottom to deture my seeing dog from digging under the fence. (everything is sand here), What can I do to stop the blind dog from touching the wire? Like maybe put something down along the edge that she can feel before she reaches the wire. How could I do that, what could I use?
Any ideas? Thanks

If he is using his nose he shouldn't get zapped unless he is curious the first time and sticks his nose on the wire. animals can smell if there is juice / current running through wire. All it will take is once for him to touch it and thus associate that scent with an ouch and he should keep away from all perimeters. ~Cat~

Perhaps you could lay down some chicken wire on the ground...? She'd be able to feel it, yet it wouldn't be super obtrusive.

I agree with renegade, they should be able to smell and associate if with ouch. If not, he will. If you want to try to keep him from getting too close, you could set up a pebble strip along the fence if it's not too similar to a driveway or road. Then he'd know 'Oh, gravel, ouch is ahead'. Anything that serves for feel and hearing should help him stay away from the fence if he's running around.
