This is Zoey. Ok, Also, my daughter said she does not like the name Zoey, but would like to know some other ideas for a name that might fit?
Zoey is white and strawberry roan with paint patterns and appaloosa markins on muzzle and rear. In her summer pictures, she looks like she has fleabitten grey color markings.
She is about 8-10 years old. I am guessing 12hh, but she might be taller. She is a sweety now that I have her home.
We went to look at her friday night. We arrived and she was in a stall eating hay. The owner didn't have any tack, not even a halter. Lucky I came prepared. I got out Molly's halter and the guy couldn't get it on her, Zo was walking in circles to evade him. Alice walks in and she stopped and let Ali put the halter on. I felt her down in the stall, and she didn't like her belly rubbed by her teets (they might need cleaned), she was ok picking up front feet but I had to ask twice on the back feet. Then we go outside in the pasture. I put the saddle on her and she was fine with that. I tried to longe her but she just wanted to go back to the barn. I forgot a whip to encourage her. I forced the saddle to move on her back and smacked the stirrups on her sides, she didn't mind that. When I put the bridle on, she bit the bit and was hard to get it in her mouth. Once in, no issues. Ali got on and while on the longe line rode her in circles. She listened good but would only walk. (Her feet are long). So then Ali gets off and we went to remove the bridle and again she bit the bit. I pinched her bars to make her release and she reared up. Finally she dropped the bit. After a better inspection, we see that she had a sore in her mouth where I pressed. It was very sensative to me touching it.
I talked to the owner for a few and supposedly there was another family coming Saturday to look at her. He refused my offer on her so I told him to let me know either way if she sold on Saturday.
Saturday I get an email that he'd accept my offer, he didn't like the other family.
Sunday we went to pick her up. The guy didn't even bother catching her. So Ali and I had to go out and catch her. She would was wild. Racing around and the guy had hay was saying she will come to hay. She will do anything for food. Yeah right. All the hay did was keep the other horses busy while we chased her around. Finally I gave the guy a leadrope and he put his arm around her neck and got her. She did pull back and wanted nothing to do with leaving. Once I got the halter on, she was fine. Ali was able to lead her to the trailer. Well as the guy lured her with hay every 2 feet.
Trailer loading is not for everyone! I had Ali operate the door, which she has done quite a few times. As I lead her into the trailer this guy puts his arm around her neck, shoves a flake of hay in her face and says come on, get in! OMG - like she's going to move when she's got food right there. After I could see the guy wasn't going to move. I told Ali to go get the carrot stick. So she comes back and attempts to hold the door and tap the pony on the butt. This is when common sense clicked in the guys head. He asked if I wanted him to tap her with the stick. I said yes (just to get him out of the way). This is when Zoey jumps in the trailer and I was going to slip out and leave her loose, she spun and pinned me against the wall. I just let her jump back out. 2nd time in was easier. So that time I just tied her so she couldn't turn on me. We put the hay in a bag for her and shut the door. While we waited for the guy's wife to show, for my change. She pawed and rocked that trailer.
Once on the road she calmed down a bit. At the toll road she neighed to the attendant. But traveled well.
At her new home, she was another horse. She was standing quietly in the trailer. She came out very calm and didn't even neigh to Molly. She was looking around. I had tied Molly to a tree so she didn't rush the pony when we put her in the fence. When ready had Ali hold the pony from the other side of the fence. Said on the count of 3 let go. I unhooked Molly. They raced around for a few. Sniffed, screamed, ran around some more. Over all the meeting was uneventful. Pony can buck tho, but she didn't do it close enough to Molly to hurt her.
This morning was awesome. I went out in the pasture to pet Molly and pony was at my other elbow wanting attention too. So I'd go and pet her and Molly would nudge at my pocket. I didn't have enough hands for them both. When I got my camera phone out, I wanted to get some action shots, and all I had to do was make kissing sounds and run in place and whoosh off they go racing around. It is the happiest I've seen Molly in weeks. She was so ready to high tail it around following that pony. I think she likes that I brought HER a pony. I dont know who's boss yet, but they are getting along.
OK Here's the pics taken this morning. Some are of Molly, see how happy she is? She shows her Arab side when she is happy!
