I talked to the ranger station in Baldwin this week and Kathy told me it was $15 a night. She is in charge of the horse camp. She said the group camp should be taking reservations in May. $40 a night for up to 8 rigs and 50 people. No water in group camp, just fire ring and pit toilet. If they get more money they will add more group camps. She told me this year you will be allowed to go down the road and camp in those openings in the woods for free but next year they will be closed. Still way cheaper than most places. I love riding there.

Thats crazy $15.00 for no real water or electricity wow I can see rising it MABE $5.00 more but $10.00 more and what do they have to offer? lots trails to get lost on lol and cougars hmm now that i am thinking i think why they raised it was to pay for the new camping site's heck for $2.00 more you can go to Ioina and have water and electricity only down side is not many trails i can do all Trails in 1day.

When did they put elec. in at Ionia? When I was there last Aug. only the people camp had it. I like both camps but enjoy Hungerfords nice sandy trails. Really like the two new trails also. I am going to Deam Lake at the bottom of IN. this spring to ride and it's 28$ a night on the weekends. Uses up my camping money real fast.

I would take Hungerford over Ionia any day. Tons of trails, and you don't always go over the same trails twice. I have yet to go on every trail there. Nice covering no bugs in the summer when I was there, lots of shade and BEAUTIFUL sandy trails to boot! Love it! Ionia is nice for closeness, but Hungerford has great trails.

I believe when I talked with the person at the office in Cadillac they said your camping fee included a forest pass for the time you were there.
As for Ionia, there was no electric in the horse campground when we were there in Oct.
And I'm another fan of Hungerford who doesn't mind the bump in prices. I thouhgt the $4 or whatever it was for the weekend we went was ridiculously low. I remember we felt so bad we put in a $10 anyway. I can't wait to go back, we missed a trip last year due to bad weather.
Sheilas - you'll have to tell us how Deam Lake is. I see they just opened a modern campground with stalls. Personally I prefer the more rustic (like Hungerford) but I'm always interested in good places to ride.

I thought Hungerford was extreemly reasonable and have also put a little extra in the envelope. Was told I could get a senior pass but opted to just pay the asking price with a little added to the pot. This year I just may get the pass but will still pay some anyway.

I always put extra in the post at Hungerford too. I spent a week at Deam Lake last Oct. The horse camp is nice. Elec. and water, shower house plus barns are being built. The trails are well marked and are great. The weekend after we were there they held the National Endurance race there, 50 and 100 milers. They do have a lot of rock spread on the trails in areas so they don't get muddy. Lots of steep hills!!!Well worth the trip.
