Ok, I cut off Bonnie's tail this morning. I didn't want to not have the chance to do it if we did find someone with a backhoe. I cut off the whole thing cuz she got sticks in it and I couldn't get just part of it. I hope Karen can still just pull the hairs out to use them.
What I am wondering, is what items do you like best? I'm not one to wear jewelry, and my daughter is really hard on things, especially things that mean something to her (heavy wear).
So what should we get?
Thanks

Karen can answer this one better then me but I have made zipper pulls and dream catchers with mine...Hope this helps a bit. With the zipper pulls I always have piece of my mare with me as I change it to whatever I'm wearing.I'm not much of a jewelry person either. And my dream catcher is on the wall above where I sit on the couch. I have the keychain she made for me hanging on the my truckmirror (is small an unobstructive to my view) I love it there. My bracelet I keep for special times but I adore it.

I don't think you want to try to ship the whole tail. Clean the tail completly and cut the longest hair to send. If you wear a hat I think a hat band would be nice. Tassels to hang most anywhere are nice too. You can hang them on a bridle, your rear view mirro, ear rings that you or your daughter could wear. Sort of a personal call.

Ok, we talked and you didn't just cut the tail off, just the hair. Sorry

Jen, I'm so sorry for your loss Many hugs and prayers for you and family thru this time. What you want really depends on items you want to remember her, and items you might use or display. Necklaces do hold up well, if that is what you decide you want for your daughter,or a Bracelet, Non Jewelry options are car mirror hanger, tassels, keyrings, DreamCatchers, hatband,Belt etc.... No problem on the tail, I wash what I pull and use for the item(s) that are made. Take care

I got a couple dreamcatchers, zipper pulls and key rings for each of us when we lost my son's gelding. Have the dreamcatcher hanging beside the computer, and I use the zipper pulls also. Thanks Karen for doing such a great job.

When I lost my mare to a ruptured cecum (colic complication) I made some nice boot tassels and bridle fobs for dressing up the bridle she used to wear. and I also made a nice fly whisk out of a old crop handle and a foot and a half of snowy white hair from her tail. Being an Arabian she had a lot of length to both her mane and tail and I didn't take it all because I wanted to send her to the next realm with most for herself. ~Cat~

My sis in law made coil baskets for me. Each one is a different shape and size. And of course they are different colors also. They sit on my piano.
All of you are in my prayers.

I still have Sunnys hair that I want to get made into tassels for attaching to different things.. I also think I would love to get a dream catcher made out of it.. but I am not going to have much money for anything extra for a while
I like the tassel idea because they can go with you. I want a larger one made to attach to bridles when I am trail riding. And a small one for my keychain (still not sure about how this will hold up though..)

Christel ~ Keychains holdup great... I made one for Ben that he has on his keys for years now and it is still in great shape. I have had several return customers recently that say they still love the items they ordered 2- 3 yrs ago.

I watched Karen braid hair while we sat at the hospital during Ben's surgery. She is good at what she does. I personally do not like the beads on a bracelet. I think it would put pressure on my arm and be uncomfortable. I still haven't harvested hair from anyone here. If I don't get something from April soon her tail may get to short since she has Appy in her. I was going to have a fly chaser on a handle made but I found one on the trail last year so I have one now.

Jen braid a piece of her forlock and keep that. I still have one from a filly that died that I used to know. You cant wear it but its a keepsake. You can also have Karen make something.
