We're surviving. It's nice & warm indoors. We had to let the outdoor cat in last night, as he was obviously cold - he wanted in! He NEVER wants to come inside! The horses are all bundled in their blankies, and they're getting plenty of hay, so they seem to be fine, as well. I can't wait for this weather to break!

I hate doing chores in this weather. It sucks, plain and simple! The horses are doing well. My water in the barn has never frozen, even in sub zero weather (knock on wood). I doubled up on their hay since the deep freeze moved in. They got a warm bran mash last night and absolutely loved it! Global warming? We aren't still buying into that propaganda, are we?! Reports from scientists (the ones without a political agenda/paid by environmental lobbyists) say our climate goes in cycles, which it has done for billions of years and the so called 'global warming' we have been experiencing is just one of the cycles we've experienced previously.

I HATE THIS WEATHER!!!! Anyone want to buy a 65 acre horse farm in southern lower Michigan? ?? I want to move to Texas!!!!!! I get out of the house long enough to do the chores and maybe get to town. Both hubby and I have COPD and this weather is just a killer for the both of us. It doesn't help matters that he came down with the flu. It was -27 here this morning. The horses are doing good, but I can't say the same for us!!!

Horses seem to be handling it better than me. If/when I go out I have insulated long johns and heavy jeans and lately a third layer of windbreaker type pants. Then on top it is at least one shirt, sweat shirt, two jackets. One is suppose to have a liner but it either didn't come with one or it just disapeard so I just use another jacket under it. Next is a hat that goes under the hood on the jacket. Boots with very heavy and warm sox and very warm gloves. When I checked weather for next week it is going to be high 20's. Hope they are wrong and it goes higher.

That is aweful weather you are all dealing with. Its not been the warmest down here either. 30s and 20s at night. Today is the coldest day so far I think, with tonite supposed to be the coldest night. I hope the water pipes don't freeze, we just did a bunch of work on them to get them working again. I think tmr I'm bringing my space heater in the store tho, drug store next door, who we are connected to has this habit of running the AC all day everyday. It seems the colder it is outside, the hotter they seem to get, and the colder the AC pushes its cold air on me. I had my coat on all day today. My hands are ice and I'm indoors! This sucks. They call me snowbunny when I go over to use the bathroom or the microwave. They think I have a problem with being too cold! hehe

Oh, I'm so ready for the bitter cold to move on!
I just have to share my strategy for staying warm when I have to go out to do chores. Here's what I put on, and I NEVER get cold:
-Usually polar fleece jammies (top & bottom) -Wool socks (a MUST!) -Boots with felt liners (I stick hand warmers in the toes of the boots if I'm going to be outside for a long time) -SNOW PANTS! -Down coat (nothing else is nearly as warm!) -Face mask (mine is an ugly hunter orange, though it's not for hunting - has a hideous design on it. This (hideous design) is not required in order to stay warm, but is an added bonus to onlookers;) -Hat over the face mask to retain heat in head -Ski goggles (and yes, these are a MUST!) My eyes water terribly in cold & wind, so these help me tremendously. They also help my cheeks stay warmer than they would otherwise. I don't have problems with windburn or chapping.
I honestly never get cold when I wear this get-up. Amazingly, my horses don't think I'm an alien. They don't even look at me weird, which I find strange, since I look nothing like I usually do! When it's this cold, I don't care if passersby see me & think I look like a complete dork. It's function over form in my book!
STAY WARM!!! ;D

Oh yeah, I forgot about my hands! I wear knit stretch gloves inside of thinsulate mittens. Gloves (any kind) alone aren't even a remote possiblity in these temps.

I'm SICK SICK SICK of this weather. During the move - no one told me till after it was final that we get more snow here at our new farm then the old one. UGH! I want to play in my barn so bad but it's just to darn cold other than to do chores and come back inside. The horses are doing good and we've always had to boost grain a little in the cold - this winter though everyone is about double their normal ration including hay and we had to resort to blanketing two of them due to it's just tooo bitter with no breaks. UGH! Think spring -

I can't stand the weather anymore. I braved the negative tempatures and went riding on sunday for an hour. I couldn't handle it anymore. I usually ride all the time in the winter, but this year it has been way to cold. My trick to staying warm, Carharts. I look about 40 ounds heavier than normal but at least I am warm.
