Why is it that if I mention I want to get a treeless saddle my hubby flies off the handle "Why do you need another saddle?" "I just bought you one last year for Mothers Day" "I just don't get why you think you need another one" The explaination did not even go well because he does not get the idea of "fat horse/skinny horse" which I have now. He does not get the idea of being a little closer to bareback but with a little more security than riding bareback. UGH. I swear I am just going to learn to shut up about my wish list purchases and even more like IF by some weird coincedence I ever get the money to buy one it will just magically show up via the UPS man one day... He cannot keep the same pick up for more than a year. He just went out and bought a 2003 Ford F250 diesel after his last truck had been paid completely off for just a few months. A little bigger investment there than a few hundred into a saddle..

My husband is really tight on his wallet. I do get some help with the horses but the extra stuff, like tack - forget it. What I did manage to do tho was buy a couple horses cheap and when I went to resell them, traded for things I needed. I still do the trading without horses tho. Done with that angle. But If I want something different, I either sell something I have and buy, or find someone willing to trade for what I have to get what I want. In doing things this way, I have upgraded to a 4 horse stock trailer, 4 or 5 saddles, lots of odds and ends, winter waterproof blankets, and things I would never imagine owning had I had to wait for the money buy them. As far as the hubby seeing it. Unless I point it out, he really doesn't notice. But even then, I just tell him I traded for it, or I swapped with a few to get what I wanted. He's ok with that, cuz I'm not spending cash, and to pay the shipping is sometimes a better deal. You just need to find what works with him, that he doesn't see $$$ but instead just sees tack and doesn't need to know which is which. Takes some fun out of the excitement of a new saddle but, would rather have that than the rash of spending money! hehe

Mine doesn't get the horse interest at all. He'd say what are the ones in the garage for?? There are only two of them (horses), yet there are four saddles in the garage. Umm, there are another three in the trailer, lol. Granted, the ones in the garage aren't useful and one should be thrown away. Even with two horses, there are three riders and four disciplins.

I wish I had something to trade for lol but I will have to remember that trading thing..
Yeah, not a horsey guy at all. He does not understand why I need a saddle and our 5 year old really should have his own saddle that his little butt fits in. So why would he see the difference between the two horses.. sometimes its hard. He helps me if I absolutely need financial help with them, but sometimes I just wish he was as into the horses as I am.

You don't always have to have horse stuff to trade for horse stuff. A lot of horse people have other hobbies, might be able to just juggle around sometimes too, until you get something that better suits you. Just make sure both ends of the trades, you feel your both "trading up". Find a deal where someone has a lot of misc tack for sale cheap. One time I got a carload, and I mean a car LOAD of tack for $50, turn around and sold some of it, kept some, and traded the rest for something else. That person was either in need of cash, or had no use for the tack. Craigslist is nice too, find some deals there in your area. Always keep your eyes open for a bargain. When I moved down here to Bama, I found a saddle on Craigs for $50, sold it on ebay for $110. I also research things on ebay or online in general or ask friends price value on lots before I jump in to buy, if I don't know the value. I never spend more than I can handle either. Its kind of gambling I guess. But theres always someone who needs some part of horse tack.
