Atleast the chick is wearing a helmet! Do not try this at home. The horse is smart to refuse but then gives in to the stupidity.

Yeah, that is pretty dumb. But thank goodness they are wearing a helmet.
A lot of times in these videos its kids. A lot of parents drop the kids off at the barn and they are not supervised and they are just curious how far they can push the limits without getting hurt.
I know I did some pretty insane stuff on my horses when I was younger and thought I was invincible. My mom and dad did not find out for several years some of the things I had done, some of the horses I had jumped on for the first time ever and rode down the road. I shudder when I think of my 5 year old doing that in a few years LOL I am going to have security cameras all over the barn area and carry the tv viewer with me at all times!
Back to the video, am I the only one who feels off balance sitting in my chair watching her ride backwards? lol

Yes I will have to agree, some of the things I did as a teen on my horse. I dont know that I ever jumped a horse backwards, but I did get escourted out of a MI STATE park for swimming my horse at the boat launch..... on Memoiral day one year! That was an experience of a lifetime! I used to ride at night, I loved to ride with a full moon. One time I was trotting my mare bareback with halter and leadropes around the hay field and she spooked at a pallet on the ground that glowed from the moonlight. I fell off, was knocked out for who knows how long. Woke up and walked back to the barn to find her munching hay. I am lucky I wasn't seriously injured. It was pretty normal for that mare to buck me off. My parents didn't enforce the helmet issue either.
I like the cameras in the horse area idea. My daughter is 10 and a serious thrill seaker. Luckily, by me getting her a 15 hh "pony", she can't tack up or mount by herself yet. Atleast until we get her a solid mounting block to use. Then who knows what will happen. She has to wear a helmet when she rides, even tho her horse is a very beginner safe gem, she can still fall off and she knows how that feels already, when I oops forgot to tighten her cinch, her saddle slid every so gently over the side and she fell about 2 ft when she let go.

I guess everyone has to have their own style. I could not do it.
And camera's around the barn might show us all things we did not want to see. LOL MArtha

YIKES!!!! Yes I did some stupid stuff as a kid too. But we were kids and there was not a seat belt law then too for the same reasons, no one had thought better. I love riding and jumping bareback, but not backwards. Yes I have sat backwards recently and WALKED my horse around, but not over anything. Good thing it was a halfy, not a really tall horse. That was a typical case of horse smarter than rider there, and finally got tired enough to do it. I like helmets, but do not enforce them except for my lesson kids. I know bad me, but that is the way I grew up.

Ah, bareback.. I can say I did some stupid jumping when I was younger. Screwed my knee up with we were jumping 4 foot jumps in the mud and rain, bareback, no bridles (just halters), and horse fell on top of my right now.
Never told my parents.. knee swelled up HUGE. Oh yeah, of course no helmets

Personally I'd headline this as "another talented rider". Just because it's not something I'd choose to do (or am able to do) doesn't make them stupid. Stupid is not knowing to check your water tank right now with the temperature in the single digits. What she did takes talent and I'm jealous. Now it may have ended badly for her, but life is learning what your limits are and testing them. Can you imagine how boring your life would have been if every move you made was closely watched, scrutinized and critiqued?
I say congrats and move it up a couple inches if you're ready!
