I am just curious as to what everyone is charging farriers for a basic trim. In Indiana the prices range anywhere from $20 (for someone who has not gone to school for it, and from what I hear I would not want them doing my horses) up to $70!!
My farrier(s) (boyfriend/girlfriend team) were charging $30 a horse, but they just moved to Oregon and the guy they left us in the care of is charging only $25. He comes out Saturday and I am nervous. Bobby and Tara were amazing and I hope he is as nice as they are.

I remember when I complained about having to pay $15 for a trim lol
I realize that everything has gone up so of course farriers must raise their rates.
Have to admit though.. I refused to pay $70 for a trim and when I needed a horse trimmed a few years ago and the only farrier in the area accepting new clients told me $70.. I went and bought nippers and a rasp and did them myself!! (My parents have a farrier who lives caddy corner to them and he came and told me I did a fine job on them too!! He wants me to work with and learn the trade but I just do not think I am up for it. My back hurts too bad after just picking feet LOL)

I have been paying $30 for trims, $70 for front shoes (natural balance) and I don't know the price for all around. But since my horses are moving south, I have not checked prices yet, still trying to find a farrier with the experience I need.

20.00 for a trim but I normally give him a good tip. VERY knowledgable guy, I'm gonna cry if he ever retires.

I pay $40 for a trim, Ouch! It is tough to find a good farrier! Mine is good but I think $40 for a trim is high....

It seems like the less and less farriers there are in an area, the more they feel like they can charge. Lately we have had quite a few farriers move into the area, so prices are evening out a little bit. When there was just the one like 20 miles away and he told me $70 I about died..

I pay $25 and no trip charge. He comes from over 60 miles and does quite a few of us over this way and on the weekend. I like that!!! I was paying someone who came highly recommended by a good vet $40 plus a $10 barn call and he only drove about 15 miles, found out he had no farrier training under his belt, other than doing his own for a few years. He was horrible, needless to say, he didn't last!!!

$25 for a trim. Don't know the price for shoes but heard he's reasonable. Best thing about him? He's one of the best farriers around the area and actually knows what he's doing!

We pay 30 a trim. Our farrier travels about 55 miles to get here. He is always on time and does a wonderful job. Were really lucky to have him

Pasomom, that reminds me too of why I like my farrier. He's here when he says he will be and there has only been one time in over 2 years when he couldn't and he called early and let me know. He does a great job!

My farrier charges $25 for a trim, $55 for front shoes, $80 for all four. He's fresh out of school and looking for new clients, thus the low prices. He's very good, professional, and ON TIME!! He is a member of BWFA and does an outstanding job with my horses.
