the good ol' days??...when you saddled your horse without any idea what a gullet measurement was or whether the tree was semi or FQHB?.....or what brand name it was?....You just saddled up and rode and had a great time..... Do you remember just feeding oats if a horse needed anything extra...not fancy stuff like Nutrena, or Triple Crown...or when you went to a local horse show you didn't need a thousand dollar wardrobe or a fancy rig??....and didn't it seem then that everyone enjoyed themselves???.......what was that old saying...some cigarette ad I believe...something like..."You've come along way baby"..... Well, we "horse lovers"...sure have come a long way..... This post is in no way meant to be a dig at anyone or anything....it is just for fun and reminiscing here's a for instance.....when we were kids...there was a pony that an old man said we could ride if we wanted.....well...the pony wouldn't budge....so we would lead it up the gravel road tugging and pulling him along and we would take turns holding him still while the other hopped on...and that little propane tank on legs would give us one heck of a ride back to the barn and thru the barn door....LOL!...now how is that for stupid!!!....but we had fun! and just so you know..that "little propane tank pony"...he would nicker and call to us as soon as he saw us coming...so looking back...i think he enjoyed it also...

Ah yes! My friends and I would ride their arabians around the woods when we were kids. We would ride double and canter, jump over logs, and pretty much do anything and try not to fall off. We had a few spills, but no one ever broke any bones and we would jump right back on! No helmets either! Good times

Absoflippinglootly I remember well those days ;D Too bad hey seem to have gone by the wayside for so many. I remember when the 4-H kids all would take a clas and design and make hand made ribbons and we would just gather at the fairgrounds and have a fun show that might cost a buck per kid tops just to cover the cost of the cook out hot dogs and burgers for everyone who showed up. I also remember the times a bunch of us horse folks would gather together in winter and hook long ropes up to our horses and the kids would lay in their plastic sleds and hang onto that rope and we would go galloping through the snow. Everyone had a heck of a good time. Nowadays they would need to sign waivers and one would need to have liability insurance and have the kids wear body armor and helmets. You know given the stuff we used to do without a second thought on horseback and around them, it is a wonder any of us managed to make it to middle age let alone adult hood LOL Thanks for posting this it triggered plenty of pleasant memories for me ~Cat~

I remember those days too,We would hop on are horses and be gone forever,No worrys ,also went to horse shows and showed in trail class and didn't matter if you switched your hand as long as your horse minded you .Those were the good old days. You could even ride in a hackamore. Didn't matter how much money was spent on a outfit,And are horses were broke by use,We didn't send them to trainers.

I was hoping it would trigger some fond memories for us all....too bad we didn't have enough smarts back then to turn an ordinary run of the mill stick into the infamous "carrot stick".....we could be rich right now!!! LOL! I didn't get my first horse until I was 16....she was a registered quarter horse who hadn't been ridden in 7 years.....and I paid a mere $150 for her....well it took all day to get her into a horse trailer....got her to a friends house...saddled up the following day and rode all day....albeit the first part of the day was a bit hairy....she didn't know the meaning of the word "Whoa"..and she certainly didn't care if you weren't wanting to go hell bent for leather through the woods....nor had she ever heard of a "one rein stop"...trust me..that girl could run just as fast with her head turned right into your stirrup without a second thought.... but she turned out to be a great horse....we even got a ribbon at one of the local horse shows...in western pleasure mind you....LOL...so yes...the showing was easier then too .. could i do those things now with a horse like that..."no sir"...I have learned fear and even if the mind was willing...the body wouldn't survive...LMAO! For some reason I find that the older I get the more I think ...you know...the thinking that starts with ..what if?? LOL!
