Court Case Grants ILPH-MI Custody of Escanaba Horses Neglected by Owner
ILPH-MI Hosts Open House to Find Homes for 16 Rehabilitated Horses
LANSING----The fate of 16 neglected horses from Escanaba was decided in a Michigan courthouse on Wednesday, August 19, granting the International League for the Protection of Horses Michigan (ILPH-MI) custody.
"We've given these horses all the love we could, and they are fully recovered from their previous neglect. They are now ready to find a new owner who can love them and care for them properly," said Larry Heuer, president of the ILPH-MI.
The ILPH-MI is holding an open house on Sunday, August 30, from 2-4 p.m. for interested parties to come out and get to know the horses at the ILPH-MI stables, Rocky Meadow Farms, 2022 Curtis Road, Dansville, MI. Among the rehabilitated horses are 14 Arab mares and two Arab geldings.
The event will open with a press conference including a statement from Heuer and an opportunity for questions from the media regarding the court case, the horses and the organization's mission.

The horses were taken and cared for by the ILPH-MI during the seven month period between the discovery of the neglect in mid-January and the court decision. During this time, ILPH-MI invested $26,000 to rehabilitate the horses.
The ILPH-MI stables are designed to hold 12 horses; currently, due to an increase in need, they hold 35. It is critical to find homes for these horses. To continue to have the resources to care for the abused and neglected horses, the ILPH-MI is in need of funds and supplies. Donations can be made at the open house; online at http://www.ilph-mi.org; by phone at (517) 449-3156; or mailed to P.O. Box 266, Dansville, MI 48821.
ILPH-MI is dedicated to the welfare, rescue and rehabilitation of horses and to the education of horse owners in Michigan. For more information, visit www.ilph-mi.org or its Facebook Fan Page.
