NOT ME!!!!!!! Seen one up close last night....I just got done riding in the outside arena, went in the barn, brushed out Pumpkin and decided we would go for a walk out in the other pasture so she could have a grassy snack. We walked to about the middle of what is a 3 acre feild and stood there for a while, saw some deer come running through and thought nothing of it, continued eating grass and then she went stiff, ears erect and just stared off towards the gate, I looked down in the long grass and there it was ready to jump out. It stood up and made itself known. at first thought coyote or bobcat until I saw it's tail. Pumpkin took it better than I did, I started yelling and waving my arms at it and she just watched it, I can't believe I didn't spook my horse yelling and flapping my arms like a madwoman. The cougar walked away slow and I walked Pumpkin back to the barn watching behind me as I walked, wasn't going to take my eyes off it. That cat was only about 10 to 15 feet away from me and was scarey as all get out!!! I hope I never see that damb cat again.....

My great-grandfather had one drive off his team in the 20's. A cougar or cougars were sighted by numerous people, including my Mom, right around our town in the 80's. My husband saw one right by our house in the 90's and people still see them around, but they aren't here...right? Cougars are all over MI. Some might be illegal pets turned loose, like the DNR says. Myself, I firmly believe there is a breeding population, both in the Upper and Lower Peninsulas. Afterall, I remember when the DNR said there weren't any wolves in the UP, except for on Isle Royale.

I wonder if they were turned loose wouldn't you think after a time they might join togeather.Iremember a man in Midland had one as a pet for years and they were trying to stop him.I heard he turned him loose and said he got away but only heard that.11 yrs ago my Daughter and I saw a tan one in Midland right by the county farm,It ran across the road it jumped the whole road in front of use and kept running across the field,We stopped to watch it,We mentioned it to DNR and of course we were crazy,Then last year my Husband and I were coming down Porter rd in Midland county Breckenridge area ,a black cat about 75 lbs jumped across in front of use right by the pine river bridge area,I called it a panther but people on old MELsaid it was a couger also,So I gueess I have seen two one tawny colored and one black,They are beautiful but bet they could do damage if they were hungry. We habve a large population of deer thank good ness.

I am in manistee, right on Lake Michigan. I board my horse across from a golf coarse and town is only about 2 miles away, it is a well populated area, so it is quite scarey to me just knowing that cat is out there and too close to town and golf coarses, and lots of public and private beaches... I am only 1/2 mile, if that off of US 31. DNR aren't saying much, other than they will try to track and catch and let go elsewhere, if they can catch it. Nothing will get done until it attacks someone, I think it was preying on me and my horse until I spotted it first, thank god....I never want to be that close to a cougar again....

Within the last 7 years I have seen two--a tan and a black--near our house. We live just outside of the Millington village limits. My husband and kids also have seen tracks on some property we own several miles east of us. The big cats are definitely here. As my husband has shared our sightings with local farmers he hears that many others have seen them too.

Had one in our pasture last summer. Hubby didn't want to shoot it and go to jail/pay a big fine so he watched it to make sure it didn't bother the horses. Cougar attack on a horse just a few miles from my farm as well. Confirmed cougar attack by a wildlife expert. Mauled the horse one night and came back a second to finish it off. Horse lived though.

I just saw a special on TV a few nights ago that said that most people who get attacked by cougars are attacked when they bend down to pick up something to throw at them...........a rock or stick............they said never bend down, stand tall and raise your spread out arms above your head to make you look larger than you actually are.
We heard a scream in the woods behind our cabin in White Cloud a couple of years ago......sounded just like a woman screaming............several have told us that is the sound of a cougar..........made the hair stand up on the back of my neck...........
