are you going saddleseat, is that what your fair calls english pleasure? Most English classes are done hunt seat unless you are riding a saddleseat horse and riding saddleseat, or you opt to ride in training level dressage attire and tack.
I haven't bought breeches in years so can't tell you what brand is preferable. But tan is always an acceptable color. As far as jacket, well as I said that is dependent upon your style and saddle. Saddleseat, the jacket and pants must match (same color/cloth). A nice black or navy hunt seat jacket or dark green is always a sure bet.

At our fair english is just english not hunt seat. Whats the difference? I have a pair of tan breeches, a black jacket and a white undershirt. Now, I got the undershirt before fancy colors became popular.

Just "english" means that you can show in any of the three attires. Hunt seat, saddleseat, or dressage apparel and tack in a combined class. The majority of which will show in hunt seat as that is the most common seat ridden for 4-H.
BBJ sounds like you are describing a hunt seat oufit, or a training level dressage acceptable outfit. For dressage, white breeches are not required until at a level higher than what 4-H offers. Conservative color jackets are the jacket requirement and can include gray, black, navy and dark green.

WOW I thought with hunt seat you needed a flat bridle? Most people rode with whatever they had and pretty much everyone has a black coat, that or navy was what was required then. There is english pleasure, equitation and bareback. We have a seperate saddleseat class. I am so confused about all this! I also rode in an all purpose saddle. Is that ok? AS for the training level dressage comment, dont those coats have long tails?

ENGLISH APPOINTMENTS APPOINTMENTS OF HORSE (ENGLISH SADDLE SEAT) – A flat English-type saddle is required. Unconventional saddles combining characteristics of English and western styles are prohibited. Full bridles are preferred for equitation and pleasure, but pelhams are permitted. Any curb strap or chain should be adjusted so that approximately two fingers can be inserted between it and the horse’s chin. No martingales or tiedowns are allowed. Four reins on the bridle are required and no converters are permitted. Kimberwicks are not permitted in saddle seat classes. When using pelham bridles, the shank of the bit should be 4 inches or more in length. Tennessee walking horses may be shown in a walking horse bit with a single rein. No braiding of forelocks, manes or tails – with the exception of saddle-type horses or ponies with show ribbons – is permitted in saddle seat classes. APPOINTMENTS OF RIDER (ENGLISH SADDLE SEAT) – Basic appointments of riders for this section are the same as for the Fitting and Showing: English Saddle Seat section (see pg. 4). APPOINTMENTS OF HORSE (ENGLISH HUNTER SEAT) – Wraps or protective boots are allowed only in classes over fences. A hunting saddle of the English forward seat type is required. Unconventional saddles combining characteristics of English and western styles are prohibited. Regulation snaffles, pelhams, kimberwicks and full bridles, all with leather browbands and cavesson nosebands, are required. Martingales are prohibited in all classes on the flat but are permitted in classes over fences. Stirrup pads are suggested. Split reins are not permitted. Unconventional and wire bits and nosebands may be penalized at the judge’s discretion. APPOINTMENTS OF RIDER (ENGLISH HUNTER SEAT) – Basic appointments of riders for this section are the same as for the Fitting and Showing: English Hunter Seat section (see pg. 4). Protective headgear is required (see General Rule 3 on pg. 1). Spurs without rowels, crop, bat and gloves are optional. Gloves are preferred for equitation. APPOINTMENTS OF HORSE AND RIDER (GAITED HORSES) – Horses and riders should be outfitted in accordance with the rules of their breed; however, no artificial devices to enhance a horse’s gait, other than standard horse shoes, are permitted.

WOW! That's a wealth of info! LOL! I've always gone with just beige colored breeches, a navy blue hunt coat, and a white or light blue shirt with stock pin (conservative). Sometimes wearing the "new" colors doesn't always do so well in the crowd.

P.S. How's my girl doing Steph?

That is just one pg of the rulebook! LOL
Most Fairs use 4-H rules unless they specify otherwise. You can get a copy of the rules free online for most associations, or pay a small fee for an actual written copy.
SG Yuor girl is doing great. They adore her. Debbie rides 4-5 times a week and September is loving it.

I'm so happy to hear that! Everyone asks me at the barn how she is. I just say "well I haven't heard anything, so I am betting she's doing fine". LOL. I'm SO happy it worked out so well!

Yep, she just got her feet done, and all is well. Except she seems to miss being near geldings a bit too much, lol. She came into instant heat when she got here to get trimmed and we had to let her get done squirting the big ones and avoid the others....Brent said he had to make sure he didn't smell like another female when he went home to his wife! Even if she was 4 legged. Other than that, she has been an absolute doll.
