Karma?

This forum is all new to me and I noticed that it has a karma rating? What pray tell is that and how does it work? Who makes that decision to raise or lower the level and what not.
I am perpeptually curious and wish to know if I am being judged for my responses posted here.
TY to anyone caring enough to reply and perhaps satisfy my curious nature by providing me with the answers I seek.

Anyone can "smite" or "exalt" you but they can only do it to one person per day.
Basically it's other peoples opinion of you, but it doesn't really make any difference as to your standing on this particular board.

Thank you for assisting me with that I had seen those selections beneath other members names and the like but I didn't investigate them for fear of doing something wrong in being a curious cussed ole Cat and glorified button pusher...
So once again TY for halping me with a curious queary I had.

I do believe that the board moderators can disable the smite/exalt thingie. This was on another board I am on and they disabled it-------to me it seems like one of those things that is fun at first and then eventually moves onto the dispute board when someone gets unhappy............................
