I am hopelessly english and need a quick lesson in western show clothes. I have a niece with a birthday coming up and she requested show items. She is riding western and I do not understand the difference between horsemanship, showmanship, pleasure, rail, etc...Any info appreciated.

haha i will try to help ya out here. A rail class just means a pleasure class because you only ride on the rail and you where a jacket that you can tuck in or a vest or a jacket that comes about to your waste. Horsemanship is pretty much a pattern class, you can where the same thing. rail shirts tend to be more sparkly and such to make you stand out on the rail from far away. Showmanship is where you lead the horse through a pattern.you where a longer jacket that comes about to the middle of your butt with matching pants. any questions just ask !

You usually wear a blazer for showmanship, a slinky/vest combo or a blouse/rail shirt for riding. Hobby Horse is a great site to browse.

Zipper in back is to wear under a vest or coat. zipper in front is usually decorated enough that it can be worn alone or with a tie....
