We drove up to Jays for the meeting yesterday. What a beautiful day for a drive! We left early since Tim had a couple paper servings to do and they could sorta work into our route, LOL. Had two to serve but only found one oh well that is how that goes some days.
Anywho we found the meeting very interesting. We went with the idea that we wanted to get to know what the group was about. And so far am pretty impressed. It is not a riding club/group like the MTRA it is a group that wants to organize to work on legislation that will affect us all as riders be it for/against whatever needs done. Exactly what we were hoping to see.
The meeting came to order and they went through with some basic housekeeping being a new group there are committees and such that must be formed and they are working through all that. But when they got down to it they discussed that hopefully in the next month or two Right to Ride legislation will be introduced at the state level and when that happens the hope is to get as many riders down there that day as possible to show support on the day they vote on it. When that is known a message will hopefully be spread far and wide to get as many there who can be. And horsemen have had input on this legislation so it looks like it may be better than was expected.
Also there is another chapter forming this will be BCH Central Michigan if anyone is interested in that group they are having their first meeting NEXT Saturday at 1 p.m. at the library in Gladwin you can see more details on the BCH Pigeon River site www.bchmi.org/ This group will be working with the existing groups, meaning Pigeon River and Beyond and the UP group, and the idea is that more chapters mean more convenience for all involved to be able to attend and participate. (for example it was mentioned there are over 30 chapters in Washington state but all work together for a common goal). As more interest grows in areas they think there will be other chapters forming. Remember thsi is all very new and very much in the growth stages right now so very open to new involvement for members too.
After listening to it all we went out and discussed it between Tim and I and we chose to join the Pigeon River group as Gladwin is more of a drive for us but we had seen some riding friends there that will be joining the Gladwin group too so it is all good.
They are also hoping to get together another ride with the legislators, this time at Goose Creek looking at July 10-12 or something similar. Whatever weekend that is.
Of note is that this is just shortly after the MTRA and 4H rides will be there both very large groups, so they are hoping that the legislators will see that even after two very large groups are in camp it is not "overused" or abusing the river so why the need to close it and move it away from there. As always we need to make sure we clean up after ourselves and our sites but that is something everyone is hopefully already doing.
And this is my opinion but the DNR is looking to spend hundreds of thousands on bridges and the new camp at a time when I don't feel it is something that first of needs to be done and second off should be a priority for the moneys we are receiving from the stimulus package. But again that is my opinion not putting that out there as an opinion of the BCHPRNB group.
Ok this is just a quick update to what we saw at the meeting my brain is fried from paint fumes after working at the house this evening, just got done with dinner but I promised to update after the meeting. This is all off the top of my head I took notes and will add more once I have more time to go over it. But we do like the looks of this and are happy to say we are members now.
