So, I guess I still thought he had a snotty nose too til I got thinking about it tonight and it was all dried up..
I noticed today it sounded like he was roaring almost when I got him out to brush him and love on him.
I am really beginning to think he has allergies.
No fever, no more snotty nose (he had one a while back but not anymore) he is eating and drinking and being a normal brat running away when I tried to catch him and everything.
He scared me when he first did it today, I thought it was an animal (well.. like a lion or tiger or bear - oh my! lol)! He gets all worked up when you mess with his ears or head at all, so I was trying to work with him on it and that sound came out. I jumped back so far it spooked my brothers horse tied on the other end of the hitching post!
He is acting okay and looks good. Gum color normal and everything seems okay except this weird breathing thing. I thought his nose issue could have been from dust in round bales, but we have been feeding square bales for at least 2 weeks now, I think longer than that.
The other horses are all fine, not even a drop of snot or anything.. I just do not get it. I am gonna give him some antibiotics and if it does not clear up I am going to POSSIBLY have vet out, the thing is (and I know this sounds bad!) but there is no way I can deal with a horse with allergies, not with the set up I have now anyways I would not feel right not being able to monitor him every day and because he is 30 miles away at my parents I would not be able too. So, if it keeps up I feel like I would need to rule out sickness from a vet but then what? $500+ later give him to someone who can take care of him?
Ugh.. know the saying never look a gift horse in the mouth?? I shoulda known a freebie could be too good to be true (and healthy!)
I love him a lot already and if a miracle happens and I get a full time job here soon from resumes I have sent out I will have a full work up done on him but hubby does not want to spend money on him since he is "basically as crazy as a wild horse" and I don't have a job..
Do vaccines work on horses like they do for dogs and cats? If I pop him with a basic rhino influenza one now could it help fight off anything he might have? (Pups exposed to parvo are given parvo vaccines and it helps fight it off)
Please no majorly flaming me for the no vet thing.. I would not hesitate at all if I had a job... I did send my resume to the local vet and the horse in question is actually one of the foals he bred, so I might go in there and be like "Here is the deal.. I need a vet and a job so look at my horse and I work free for a few weeks, he is one you bred"
