My fola was born on May 18th at midnight an at a week old started pawing at the grain tub(its short rubber type). Is this a sign that he will be a pawer as he gets older or can i catch this problem now an how can i stop it it.At his age he may not understand any change of direction to a different interest than pawing thats more interesting an postitive.like a play ball or a roll treat toy or even playin with the dish like his mom does.she picks it up is sways it for grain tellin me its time for feed.i swear she has a timers alarm clock in here.she has even thrown the dish at me by accident.lol.anyway back to the question at hand.can anyone help me out there.... american03pride@men.com for pics of colt

Sounds like he just wants to play. When a horse is older and paws, I don't really think you can cure it. I believe you just have to change the situation so he doesn't have the opportunity to paw.

You can change a pawer, My 2 year old has began pawing and rearing when tied...so I got a training rope halter with the knots, a clinton anderson ring and tied her out the fence post in our round pen....Clintons remarks on bad tiers is leave them there as long as it takes. Check on them, if they continue their pawing, rearing or whatever, leave...continue until they remain calm when you approach or view from aways, if they start being silly again, his suggestion is water them, give them a hay sack and leave them tied over night...a young lady asked how long...his reply was for "days" not sure if it was four days or For days So far I tied mine up at 11 in the am, at 7 she stood Great when I approached finally so she didnt have to go over night..... For the foal Curious George comes to mind
