I will be opening up a facility located in South Lyon soon and I'll end up charging $400/mo. Includes use of indoor and outdoor arenas, trails and hot/cold indoor wash stall. Hay 3x day and grain 2x day. Blanketing and feeding supplements will be free of charge but I will be charging an additional $5 for holding for farrier and vet. Each boarder also gets a tack locker. Heated OB room available for use too. All things considered, with every place i've boarded, this seems to be the low end for board, especially in this area.

Claim it and deduct expenses. You just claim it as self employment basically. Deduct all hay cost for those two, all grain, etc.

better safe than sorry. You can deduct land use, electricity, insurance, etc against a self employment "business".

See thats why I love where I am at. No indoor to outdoor daily stuff. My horse has her own run right off her stall and if we gat bad weather we just close her in for the night. I have been there for just a little over five years, as long as I have owned my own horse. I will be there til she tells me to leave....LOL!!!! I am a good boarder though, I do whatever I can to help out around the barn, I never miss a day going out there unless I am dieing...I only have a five minute ride to the barn, so thats nice too. All the other boarding places here are the more fancy ones, or so they call themselves. They both charge around $400 pasture board and $450 stall board. They supply hay, you buy your own grain and treats and they will give it to them. Also have indoor arenas, big plus, but not for me at $200 plus more a month. Neither place has good places to ride outside. Where I am at now at least we have some places to ride and there is only one other boarder and the owner. So there is only 6 horses out there and we all ride together, go to clinics together and get all trimmings and vet stuff done at the same time....Okay, you can tell I am happy where I am at....Now the other girl that boards at the barn needs everything done for her, she even needs help worming her horse, she won't clean a stall to save her life, so I think she is paying a little more than I am. She just moved her horse here in October from one of the more uppity barns and hated it there. She loves it at the barn she at now, but everything is being done for her. How do you bound with a horse if you don't spend time with it? ? She is always telling me she can't believe the bond between me and my horse, but I do something everyday with her even if it is just getting groomed or some leg stretches or just some lovin while cleaning her stall....I love my horse and want to be around her as much as possible and take care of her myself....
