I have been going to the State Fair since I was 7 years old.....I am now 39 and have not missed it for one year. I have also brought my children to the Fair every year since they were born.
It would be a sad day to see it go.

Mr. Steve Jenkins resigned from his appointment as Manager of the Michigan State Fair & Expo Center. Mr. Jenkins has become a big advocate of the State Fair and the grounds in Detroit. I would imagine that when asked by the Governor for his support in making an example of (budget cutting) and closing the Fair and the grounds, since he doesn't believe in doing that he did the only thing he could and that was to resign. Mr. Jenkins is a very honorable man and I think the world of him. In this economy to be able to put your principles first before your job takes a lot of strength and courage!
Why I am writing to all of you is the fact that we need the Fair and the grounds. Not only do we need it but we need to see it put back into top notch condition. Don't forget people this is one of the oldest Fairs in the nation and a big part of this States history. So please email, write, call and visit your State Legislators and let them know how you feel about this. Forward this message or make up one of your own, to everyone you know, even if they just attend the horse shows or the Fair. What the Governor wants done has to be voted on by your Reps in Lansing. Remember we voted these Reps into office and they are suppose to work for us.
Another thing that you need to be aware of is that there is suppose to be a=2
0public forum held at the Fairgrounds very soon. Our problem will be when they will notify us and how far in advance our notice will be. We need to fill the room which I have been told holds over 600. Just remember if you don't act now and you put this off, it could be lost because of what you didn't take a few minutes to do.
If you have any questions or need to talk about this, please don't hesitate to call me at 248-437-5757.
Thanks for your time,
Sue Hall, President
