I have an American Kennel Club labrador, and a Continental Kennel Club labrador. Are puppies registerable? I am assuming so...but not sure how that works... Any help would be great!
Thanks!

Hey Olivia.. Only if one of the parents holds the same registry. So you would have to have both with AKC to register them AKC. Now the CKC may recognize AKC dogs so you might be able to get ou AKC dog dual registered as AKC/CKC (think of CKC as a color registry for example you have an AQHA who is also palomino so is double registered AQHA/PHBA). That is probably clear as mud... but look into CKC requirements. The AKC is a closed registry on labradors so you won't be able to register pups in that register but maybe the other

Thanks! LOL clears it up so much easier when talking in horse terms. I was trying to do some reading, and apparently some people register outside of AKC because it's cheaper. So if I contact the breeders and find out if the parents are AKC I should be able to get AKC on my lab and have her double registered....other wise...I'm gonna have to double the AKC to CKC....WHEW! What a mouthful...and I was hoping it was going to be easy.

People do NOT just breed outside of AKC because it is cheaper. It isn't that expensive to breed and register a litter with AKC. Most times people register with UKC or this new thing CKC because their dogs are truly NOT as pure as they would need be via DNA sampling for registration with AKC. Case in pointsilver labs those animals that have (silver dogs) in their background are NOT purebred....... Labradors only come in three colors Black, Chocolate (once called liver) and Yellow although lighter versions of yellow are called ivory. There are no white labradors and no silvers which are pure labrador. They got that silver coloration years ago back in the 90's by blending in Weimaraner. Therefore any silver labradors are no more a purebred lab then a mustang is a purebred Arabian. UKC and what ever this CKC is do not hold true to phenotype and breed standards to the extent AKC does. This kind of thing borders on designer dogs which sell for rediculous prices. Sorry if my clarifying a specific topic about the registries upsets you, but that kind of thing really gets my goat, there are hundreds of animals out there in shelters, abandoned and dropped off along roadways ALL of them needing, and deserving of homes, so why breed more??? JMHO ~Cat~
Go visit a rescue or a shelter today and then perhaps you will see why I am so upset by this sort of thing.

ckc will register the pups with out the parents being registered you just have to send pics of the parents but if you register your akc dog its free to register your litter. My stud dog is registered AKC my female came from AKC dogs but the breeder did not want to DNA test her stud dog so AKC would not register any other litters from her. So I put CKC papers on both cost was $24 total and ts free to register my new litter I even did it on line It was very easy

I'm not offended renegadespiritcat. Your entitled to you own opinion that's why this post wasn't about people opinions it was to help me get information about dog registries, but thanks for the info you offered. It makes it easier to understand when translated into "horse terms" for me. I choose to not go to the kennels because I would want to bring them all home, and I'm sure my hubby would not like that. For whatever it's worth...my female lab was unwanted so I took her in, same with my German Shephard...my male lab wasn't unwanted just needed a new home so we took him too.
I did some e-mailing and calling around...AKC e-mailed me back saying to send a copy of my CKC dogs registration and pedigree and they will do the research for me and if the pedigree has X % of AKC then they will register hwe for a fee. Which I think is awesome, and I figure if their going to do the reseach for me why not right? I've learned a lot about the different registries though...I had no clue until now. I am getting all the paperwork in order to register the make with CKC and vice versa for the female. I don't think it's going to be as hard as I first thought it was going to be.
